USC Women's Swimming: Senior Star Earns Conference Honor
Senior USC Trojans women's swimmer Anicka Delgado has been honored as the Pac-12 Women's Swimmer of the Week, thanks to a prolific showing during USC's 168-89 obliteration of the University of Las Vegas Rebels, per a USC press release.
Delgado's efforts helped the club boost its undefeated record on the young season to 3-0.
She finished first in the 50-yard freestyle competition, with a time of 23.35 seconds, and the 100-yard butterfly, with a 55.14-second finish. She also logged a 23.55-second time as part of the Trojans' 200 freestyle relay team, which won out with a time of 1:33.73 in their meet. Delgado was part of the Trojans' 200-yard medley relay squad, which finished second with a time of 1:42.17.
Delgado and USC have since improved to a 5-0 record on the year this afternoon. The Trojans vanquished both the University of California San Diego Tritons, 185-69, and the Utah Utes, 172.5-84.5, today during the UCLA Bruin Diving Invitational at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
The daughter of Olympic swimmer Felipe Delgado, Anicka competed for Ecuador in the "2020" Tokyo Summer Olympics, actually held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 5'9" Laguna Hills native's 25.36-second finish in the 50-meter freestyle notched her a tie for 25th place. Her 55.56-second finish in the 100-meter freestyle was good for 31st in the 100-meter freestyle (55.56).
As a junior in 2022-23, she was named a College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America All-American Honorable Mention in the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
