USC Women's Volleyball: Skylar Fields Shines in 1st 2023 Victory
Your USC women's volleyball team is officially on the board with a big win over the University of Southern Mississippi. They embarked on a road trip to Houston this past weekend to kick off their 2023 season and along with a number of new faces, they also have some returners leading the way for this campaign.
The Women of Troy were ranked number 22 in the nation heading into this season and even though they dropped their first two games in Houston, they were able to come together against Southern Mississippi and sweep them in all three sets.
Senior Skylar Fields specifically took on a bulk of responsibilities during this Sunday match as she posted 17 kills, nine digs, two blocks with a .424 hitting average. It was a special time for her as she made her homecoming to Houston and took full advantage of the opportunity.
"FINAL: #22 @uscwomensvolley (1-2) salvages the final match of their tough opening trip after back-to-back ranked losses, sweeping Southern Miss (0-3)"
Along with Fields, junior Mia Tuaniga and senior Lindsey Miller also played key roles in USC's first win of their season. Tuaniga was able to contribute 30 assists along with two blocks and Miller chipped in six blocks and five kills.
The Women of Troy will face off against the University of Hawaii twice this week on August 31 and September 2 and they will look to get to and above .500. Both of these will be away games as part of a difficult schedule to start and we hope that they continue this positive momentum!
