USC Women's Water Polo: Top-Ranked Trojans Open New Season With Two Victories
The USC Trojans women's water polo team opened their new season with two impressive victories. The number-one-ranked team in the country put on a dominant display to open the year.
They took down San Diego State by a score of 18-7 and Cal State Fullerton by a score of 16-3. Thirteen different USC players scored across the two wins, and they were led by a career-high six-goal performance from Honnie Vandeweghe-O’Shea against the Aztecs.
In the kickoff game against San Diego State, USC dropped the first goal to fall behind. But from there, it sparked a nice rally, and they finally settled in.
It was a tough game against the 23rd-ranked Aztecs, but USC was able to pull away in the third period. They shut out San Diego State to build their lead, and ultimately grab the first win of the season.
Against Fullerton, USC dominated from the start, jumping ahead 7-0 in the game. They led 8-2 at halftime and never looked back from there.
Once again, USC was able to shut out the opponent in the third period to build out their lead. With the convincing win, USC reminded everyone how great they can be this season.
The Trojans have two open scrimmage games up next, with matches against Occidental and Whittier set to take place next Saturday. It will be a good test for this USC team, and they will look to remain undrafted on the year.
