USC Women’s Volleyball Club Wins Trojan Invitational Title
Your USC Women of Troy volleyball team enjoyed quite the prolific weekend while hosting the 2023 Trojan Invitational at the Galen Center from Friday through Sunday.
On Friday, with their best-attended home crowd in a decade (3,314 fans packing the Galen Center) and the third-most ever overall, the Women of Troy obliterated the UC Davis Aggies in a three-set sweep, 25-19, 25-19, 26-24, per a USC recap.
6'2" senior outside hitter Skylar Fields led the way for USC with 15 kills and one block (.484 hitting conversion rate), while 6'2" opposite hitter redshirt freshman Madison Pietsch was right on her productive heels, notching 13 kills and one block herself (.321 hitting). USC enjoyed a 54-44 advantage in overall digs.
Per the team site, the Women of Troy followed up that stellar effort with a Saturday encore, a sweep of Marist (during the two schools' first-ever meeting), 25-12, 25-15, 25-17. 6'4" senior middle blocker Lindsey Miller shined in this one, posting her third double-digit match with 11 kills on a season-best .667 hitting rate, plus one ace and two blocks.
Fields then fully earned her Trojan Invitational Tournament Most Outstanding Player crown with a Herculean run on Sunday against the University of San Diego Toreros. She recorded 28 kills on .350 hitting with 60 tries and grabbed a block. 5'8" sophomore libero Gala Trubint logged 20 digs, four assists and two service aces. 6' graduate student opposite Kalyah Williams recorded a career-best 13 kills (.244 hitting) and one block. All told, USC won a bit of a nail-biter, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23.
Beyond Fields, Miller and Trubint were both named to the all-tournament team, per a USC recap.
USC women's volleyball is now 196-54 all-time at home. The Women of Troy have improved to a 4-4 record on the 2023-24 season.
