Utah WBB Still Yet to Beat a Ranked Opponent with Loss to Stanford
The Utah women had some Pac-12 action on their plate as they faced off against the 8th-ranked team in the nation, Stanford.
The Utes going into the game hadn't had the best of luck against ranked opponents or conference opponents and this game continued the trend as Utah lost 66-64.
Alissa Pili was the top scorer for the Utes, garnering 16 points going 5/18 from the field and 4/5 from the line. Reese Ross led the team in rebounds as she grabbed 8 boards and Kennady McQueen led Utah in assists with 5.
For the Cardinal, Kiki Iriafen led the team in scoring and rebounds, going 11/23 from the field and 3/4 from the line for 25 points and completing the double-double with 16 rebounds, 10 on the defensive end of the court.
However, close conference games are seldom without controversy and this game was no different. A thread on X highlighted potential missed calls against the Utes within the crucial deciding seconds of the game.
Nonetheless, a loss is a loss and the Utes have fallen to 11-5 on the year and 1-3 in the Pac-12 while still failing to beat a ranked opponent. Next up, the Utah women face off against Cal at home on January 14th.
