Coaching Legend Urban Meyer Says He's the "Biggest Utah Fan I Know" at Annual Utah Football Coaches Clinic
One of the greatest college coaches of all time, Urban Meyer, was this year's keynote speaker at Utah football's coaches clinic, hosted for high school coaches from across the state.
In his speech, Meyer reminisced on the 2004 Utah Utes team and was proud to see how far they've come in life when they had a reunion earlier that weekend. Meyer also instilled a wealth of knowledge upon the coaches in the crowd that he learned from the one and only Woody Hayes and recounted the improbable 2014 championship season with Ohio State, using Ohio State legend Cardale Jones as an example of how to handle a player and get the most out of him.
Meyer, who was donning a Utah quarter zip, praised Coach Whittingham and the job he's done with the team and the culture he's established with the program as a whole. He harped on the tough nosed, gritty play that Utah football is known for under Whittingham, noting that football should be played the way Utah plays, and even admitted that he got a little teary-eyed spending time with the program over the weekend in different activities and seeing it up front and personal.
In his post-speech presser, Meyer proclaimed himself to be the biggest Utah fan he knows, which put the icing on the cake of his incredibly inspiring and insightful speech. It's safe to say that he will always have a soft spot for the U, even boasting that the '04 team would've beaten USC if given the chance. It is an honor to have such a prestigious name be associated and active with your university and every time Urban Meyer is speaking, there is sure to be open ears and fixated eyes ready to take in every word like a sponge.
