Bryson Barnes and Nate Johnson are battling for reserve quarterback role
Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is not revealing anything he doesn't have to ahead of Utah's Week 1 matchup against Florida.
When speaking to the media about his quarterback situation, the head coach has been making sure the quarterback standings are "close to the vest". He has already iterated that he doesn't feel it's necessary to share who has the leg up in the competition, and doesn't feel that not announcing it before the game does much anyway.
However, one thing we did learn was that the backup quarterback battle between Bryson Barnes and Nate Johnson is a lot closer than it once was.
Barnes is the more experienced of the two, but clearly Johnson has made major strides in the battle as well. The reason is this battle is so important for those not keeping score at home is the fact that Cam Rising's status for the game against Florida is unknown.
