Pac-12 And SEC Tied For Having Most Ranked Teams After Week 1
In a year that has been less than stellar for the Pac-12 off of the field, college football was treated to a dominant showing by the conference.
In what is expected to be the last year of the Pac-12's existence, the conference is poised to be one of the best from top-to-bottom. We saw it on display in Week 1 as every single team in the conference walked away victorious.
The strong showing led to the conference having six teams ranked in the AP Poll's Top 25 which was tied for the most with the SEC. Of those six teams, the Pac-12 has four teams that are ranked within the top 15.
Let's take a look at where each of the six teams in the Pac-12 ended up being ranked in the top 25.
22. Colorado
The Buffs shined in Deion Sanders' coaching debut at Colorado. They pulled off a huge upset against No. 17 TCU after they were 20.5 point underdogs. Their offense looked elite, while their defense had some strong moments as well.
16. Oregon State
The Beavers got a monster performance from Clemson transfer DJ Uiagalelei who accounted for five touchdowns against San Jose State. Last season they were missing decent quarterback play and now they appear to have just that. They move up two spots in the rankings.
13. Oregon
The Ducks had put up Kobe Bryant-like numbers against Portland State hanging 81 points on them and showing just how dangerous their offense could be. They moved up two spots in the rankings.
12. Utah
The Utes were without their star quarterback and tight end against Florida, and still were able to blow the Gators out. Their defense was causing havoc all game, and the offense did more than enough to secure the victory. They also move used a couple spots.
8. Washington
The Huskies started off slow against Boise State, being held scoreless in the first quarter and trailing 6-0, but rattled off 28 points in the second quarter. They went on to win big, and they too moved up two spots.
6. USC
USC is the lone team in the Pac-12 to have already played two games, and their second showing was much better than their first. After a poor defensive performance against San Jose State, they held Nevada to just 14 points while putting up 66 of their own. They were the only team to not move up or down, as they remained right where they were to open the season.
