Paul Finebaum advises three Pac-12 schools to ' jump, run ... get away from the Pac-12'
Following the news that the Pac-12's media rights deal will be heavily dependent on Apple's streaming service the rumors of what will happen to the remaining schools have run rampant.
The Big Ten is reportedly considering adding Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and Cal while the Big 12 is looking for at least one more school to add with Colorado. The media rights deal centered around Apple was supposed to be the saving grace, but is expected to be around $20 million per school with the opportunity to earn more based on subscriptions.
A method that ESPN's Paul Finebaum thinks is unlikely to succeed as he explained on ESPN's Get Up that Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah should all leave the conference.
“Jump, run, do anything they can to get away from the Pac-12,” Finebaum said Wednesday on Get Up. “I mean, I was listening to Pete (Thamel) and you’re going to go to a college president when he has a good deal over here and say, ‘Hey listen doctor, president of Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, be patient. If we can get enough people to sign up on Apple that we are going to be great.’
He continued explaining that the conference won't really have any games worth watching, and that staying with the Pac-12 will only hurt the schools.
“Well the bottom line is this guys, nobody’s signing up on Apple to watch the Pac-12 because there’s nothing to watch once you lose Colorado, UCLA and USC. I mean, I don’t want to be the guy that keeps burying this lede, because I think I did it the other day, but I’m gonna keep doing it. Somebody needs to shovel dirt on this league and end this charade. It’s over for the Pac-12 And these three don’t get out of there, they’re going down with the ship.”
For Utah they have long been rumored to be a target by the Big 12, and as each day passes it appears that the Pac-12 doesn't seem likely to exist by this time of next year. Something that head coach Kyle Whittingham mentioned when he discussed how college football is heading towards super conferences.
