Utah Coach Kyle Whittingham Provides Update On Cam Rising's Status
The return of Cam Rising is something that for Utah fans feels like it's so close yet so far away at the same time.
The last time Utes' fans saw Rising play was against Penn State in the Rose Bowl, and other than a couple of times this season where he'd warm up in pads he has been in street clothes every game. Utah has fared decently without him going 4-1 thanks to the efforts of the defense and solid showings from Nate Johnson and Bryson Barnes, but with Pac-12 play really about to ramp up, it is evident this team needs Rising if they have any chance at winning the Pac-12.
The offense ranks as the No. 126 offense in the country in total offense, No. 120 in passing, and t-No. 117 in scoring. During the Oregon State loss, it was revealed that there is nearly a 20-point difference when Rising starts compared to the others. However, when speaking to the media on Tuesday head coach Kyle Whittingham revealed that one of their biggest issues is that they have been finding out Rising's status late in the week as opposed to the beginning.
Something he confirmed on Tuesday they will no longer be doing, as they will know his status early next week ahead of their matchup against Cal.
Whittingham also alluded to the fact that there is just one doctor holding Rising out, which happens to be the doctor that star Brant Kuithe needs clearance from as well.
“You’d have to ask his doctor,” said Whittingham when asked about Rising.
He also made sure to take a slight jab at the doctor when asked about Kuithe who has also not played this year.
“Boy, I hope so,” Whittingham said. “That’s the same uno doctor- the one we are waiting on for Cam, we’re waiting on for Brant.”
Utah fans have been beginning to question if and when the two will return this season, and we can confidently say that without them this team has a pretty low ceiling.
