Utah Football's Official 2024 Schedule Released Ahead Of First Big 12 Season
Pack your bags, buy a ticket, and get ready to tailgate because Utah’s official 2024 football schedule has been released.
The Utes knew who they would face in the upcoming season since early November when the Big 12 released their new 16-team four-year scheduling matrix, but exact dates for each game were withheld.
As the matrix revealed, Utah would face Arizona, BYU, TCU, and Iowa State at home in 2024, and then go on the road to take on Arizona State, Colorado, Houston, Oklahoma State, and UCF.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30th, each game's date was finally revealed.
However, before they reach in-conference play, the Utes will take on three “non-conference” teams to open the season. Dates for these games were set long before the Jan. 30th reveal.
The Utes open their season on Aug. 29 at Rice-Eccles Stadium against a Big Sky Conference opponent: the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.
After a bout with the Thunderbirds, Utah will stay at home to face the Baylor Bears on Sept. 7th. Interestingly, the Utes’ contest against the Bears will be a non-conference game due to prior scheduling contracts.
Utah will compete in their final non-conference game of the season in Logan, Utah, against the Utah State Aggies. The Sept. 14th meeting between the two teams will be a fun one due to the Aggies being led by former Utes signal caller Bryson Barnes.
Utah will open their inaugural Big 12 season with an away game on Sept. 21 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The conference opener was leaked before the Jan. 30th reveal after keen-eyed fans found tickets for the game were being sold.
After being away for their first conference game of the season, the Utes will return to Salt Lake and take on the Arizona Wildcats at home on Sept. 28. The game will be circled on the Utes’ calendar after the Wildcats came into Rice-Eccles Stadium and trounced Utah in 2023.
After facing the Wildcats, the Utes will have their first of two BYE weeks on the season. Following their first week off, Utah will take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in a road matchup. Currently, the game has the potential to be played either Friday, Oct. 11, or Saturday, Oct. 12 due to network rights being unsettled.
Following their battle with the Sun Devils in Tempe, AZ., the Utes will return home to face the TCU Horned Frogs. Utah’s game against TCU will see two former Mountain West foes pit against each other on Oct. 19th.
A week later on Oct. 26, in between their game against TCU and their second BYE week of the season, Utah will travel to Texas to take on the Houston Cougars. The meeting will be only the fifth ever between the two teams, and the first since 1978.
After their second BYE week in early November, the Utes will have arguably their most anticipated game of the 2024 season.
On Nov. 9th, the Utes are set to host BYU in the 102nd iteration of the contest known only as the “Holy War”. The 2024 contest will mark the first time Utah has hosted BYU in Rice-Eccles Stadium since 2018.
Following their long-awaited rematch against BYU, the Utes will play three final conference games before the end of the season. Firstly, an away game against the Colorado Buffaloes on Nov. 16th. After their voyage to Boulder to face the Buffaloes, Utah will return home for the team’s final home game of the season against the Iowa State Cyclones on Nov. 23rd.
Finally, Utah ends its 2024 regular season with the team’s first-ever contest against the UCF Knights. Rather than finishing their regular season in frigid late fall Salt Lake, the Utes will travel to South Florida to end the season in style on Nov. 29th.
