Utah stays at No. 7 in CFP ranking
Last week, Utah hosted UCLA in a massive Pac-12 south battle — and came away with a 49-3 throttling of the Bruins. Apparently that win wasn't enough (not a shocker), to move the Utes up in the latest CFP rankings, released tonight.
Utah remains at No. 7 in the rankings, right on the heels of No. 6 Oregon, who has already secured its spot in the Pac-12 championship game.
Wins by the Utes in their two final regular season games will pit the Ducks against the Utes in a massive Pac-12 title game, with the winner likely getting the fourth and final bid to the college football playoff — assuming No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Clemson all win out.
Alabama checked in at No. 5, but its spot is in jeopardy considering it lost starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for the season following hip surgery. The Crimson Tide still have to face No. 15 Auburn in the regular season finale, and barring an absolute collapse by LSU, Alabama will not be playing in the SEC championship game.
No. 8 Penn State, No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 10 Minnesota round out the top-10.
The Big-10 leads the way with six teams ranked, while the SEC has five teams in the top-25.
Both Oregon and Utah got a boost with USC entering the rankings this week at No. 23. The Utes' lone loss of the season came against the Trojans, while the Ducks took down USC a few weeks ago. USC's return helps validate the Pac-12 even further, which should help at the final rankings.
