Utah Utes Pursuing Michigan State QB Transfer Sam Leavitt
Following the announcement that quarterback Cam Rising will be returning for his seventh year of college football in 2024, the Utah Utes have seen some attrition from the quarterback room.
Both of their quarterbacks who started games this season, Bryson Barnes and Nate Johnson, opted to hit the portal and look for a new opportunity next season, as did freshman signal caller Mack Howard. As a result, Utah's quarterback room in 2024 will consist of Rising, Brandon Rose who missed this season due to an injury, and four-star freshman Isaac Wilson.
As Kyle Whittingham revealed to the media recently, they are planning to rely on the portal to help bolster their roster and that includes the quarterback position. According to a report by SBLive, the Utes were among the numerous schools that reached out to Michigan State quarterback transfer Sam Leavitt on Monday.
Leavitt revealed that he had heard from Arizona State, Nebraska, and Oregon State among others. The Oregon native appeared in four games this season, completing 15-of-23 passes for 139 yards with two touchdowns and interceptions, while also rushing for 67 yards.
Aside from quarterback, the Utes may also look to address positions such as tight end and receiver. Here are some interesting possible targets that they may pursue in the transfer portal:
