Utah Baseball Takes Two of Three in Home Slate Against Stanford
It was another weekend of Pac-12 action for the Utes as they faced an Easter weekend slate against Stanford after playing Cal the previous weekend, winning that series two games to three as well.
In the series opener, the Utes came away with a 3-2 win. Stanford opened the scoring in the third inning after a single up the middle drove in a run, but Utah answered back in the fifth with an RBI single of their own, tying the game at one run a piece. The Utes extended their lead by two runs in the sixth inning after a triple drove in a run, followed by a second base ground out which allowed the man on third to cross home. The Cardinal brought it back to one in the eighth, but it wasn't enough as they couldn't even the scoreline in the ninth, giving Utah the win.
The Utes also took game two of the series, winning 7-5 after putting five runs on the board in the first five innings. Stanford got on the scoresheet in the sixth, scoring three runs, but Utah answered back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own, moving the score to 7-3. Putting up two runs in the ninth, the Cardinal attempted to level the line but fell short as the game ended 7-5 in Utah's favor.
Stanford took game three of the slate after besting the Utes 11-6 in eleven innings of play.
On the season, Utah moves to an 18-8 overall record with a 7-5 conference record, and have a two-game in-state slate against Utah Valley University in front of them to start the month of April before a three-game home stand against CSUN on April 5th-7th.
