Vanderbilt Football Newest Commitment is SI All-American Candidate
Delfin "Xavier" Castillo is a massive young man standing 6'5" 340-pounds, and on Saturday, he became the newest commitment to the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Castillo becomes the fifth Vanderbilt commitment that is part of the 1,000 high school players recently announced as candidates for the 2020 SI All-American High School Football Team.
A three-star prospect, the Baltimore native, and St. Francis Academy product brings a huge frame that needs reworking to drop bad weight and add more muscle, which he can comfortably handle but will take a year of work to accomplish.
Currently a tackle at the high school level, you can see his athletic skills where Castillo moves well but is best suited for the interior as a guard where his physicality and mauling style can excel.
Commodores offensive line coach Pete Rossomando continues his excellent work on recruiting, having served as the primary recruited for Castillo, and earning his commitment over SEC rival Tennessee. The Volunteers, along with Vanderbilt, are the only SEC schools to have offered.
Castillo does hold Power Five offers from Michigan State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Maryland, while also having received interest from Alabama and others who have not yet extended an offer.
As a player, Castillo, who is currently ranked as the No.47 overall tackle in the class, there is still room for that ranking to improve with a solid season and off-field work to begin the physical transformation.
Castillo shared this message through his Twitter account when announcing his commitment to the Commodores.
Following Castillo's announcement, the Commodores now have ten players verbally committed to the class of 2021, with five being candidates for the SI All-American team. Their new national recruiting ranking stands at No.68, according to Rivals.com and No.72 in the 247Sports rankings.
