As a new member of the Vanderbilt press corps I'm meeting the Commodores players for the first time. That was the case on Wednesday when I got to spend a few minutes with senior wide reciever Kalija Lipscomb following the team's practice inside the Rich Practice Complex.

A soft spoken and seemingly shy young man- at least to an old man who he'd never spoken to before, Lipscomb says he is impressed by what he has seen from the defense of this Saturday's opponent, the LSU Tigers.

"Their (defense) is highly sought after, with big expectations and I think most of them are going to have the opportunity to play on Sunday," said Lipscomb. "So it's always good to go against top competition.

As a native of New Orleans one might assume that this game would be extra special for Lipscomb, but that's not the case.

"Not really, "said Lipscomb. "Honestly I look at them the same way I do Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee or anyone else we play. It's another game in a very competitive conference, the only difference is a know a few more guys on their team."

Through the first two games of the season, Lispcomb who is the top wide out on the Commodores squad has 11 receptions for 106 yards,  but has yet to find the endzone.

Lipscomb will face his friends Saturday at 11 am when the Tigers visit Vanderbilt stadium with the Tigers undefeated while the Commodores will be looking for their first won of the season against the 4th ranked Tigers.
