University of Michigan Stay-in-Place Order Will Not Apply to Athletics
All University of Michigan undergraduate students are in an emergency stay-in place order due to a rise in COVID-19 cases. On Tuesday the order was set in place by the Washtenaw County Health Department but it will not impact Michigan's athletic activity at this time. Despite the stay-in-place order running until Nov. 3, the health department said that any students associated with intercollegiate varsity sports may attend practices and competitions at this time.
However, it is noted that athletic medical staff must be present during the entire process. They are also requiring that a staff member must quote "actively supervises the team's COVID-19 mitigation activities during the practice." The Michigan football team is set to travel to Minnesota for its season opener on Saturday. At this time no players will be excluded from the game for COVID-19 protocols.
