When Rachel Clark scored early in the second half to make it a one-goal game, it seemed the Cavaliers were on their way to taking the seventh-ranked Eagles down to the wire. Instead, the final score shows a blowout 12-goal win for Boston College. Such is life in ACC women's lacrosse.

UVA gave BC a fight for two and a half quarters, but the Eagles closed the game on an 11-1 run and No. 12 Virginia fell to No. 7 Boston College 25-13 on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill.

Facing a top 10 opponent for the fourth time this season, the Cavaliers got off to about as good of a start as they could have hoped for. After Boston College struck first, Mackenzie Hoeg answered with back-to-back goals, sparking Virginia to score the next three goals and five out of the next six. Ashlyn McGovern scored with 19 seconds left in the opening period to give UVA a 5-2 lead, but the Eagles managed to score twice in the final 19 seconds, including a goal from Jenn Medjid that just barely beat the buzzer to make it 5-4 at the end of the first quarter.

Andrea Reynolds tied things up with a goal for Boston College early in the second and Mackenzie Hoeg responded with an unassisted goal to put Virginia back in front, but Kayla Martello then scored twice to give the Eagles their first lead since it was 1-0. Rachel Clark scored unassisted to tie the game again, but Boston College scored the next three goals, each from a different scorer, to build a 10-7 lead. UVA got goals from Hoeg and Clark in the final minute of the quarter to get back within one, but the Eagles again beat the buzzer as Lizzie O'Neill found the back of the net with one second left to give Boston College an 11-9 halftime lead.

Virginia came out of the gates strong in the second half as Kate Miller fed Rachel Clark for her third goal of the game, but it was all Boston College after that. The Eagles outscored the Cavaliers 8-3 in the third quarter and 6-1 in the fourth, cruising to a 25-13 win. Continuing the trend of scoring just before the buzzer, Boston College recorded a goal with nine seconds left in the third quarter and with two seconds left in the fourth to rub salt in the wound.

Jenn Medjid and Kayla Martello led Boston College with five goals each and five different Eagles recorded a hat trick in the game. BC outshot UVA 43-30 and shots on goal were 31-22 in favor of the Eagles. Rachel Clark and Mackenzie Hoeg had four goals apiece for Virginia, while Ashlyn McGovern had a hat trick and Kiki Shaw scored twice, but no other Cavaliers scored in the game.

The loss drops Virginia to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in ACC play. UVA will conclude the regular season with the Commonwealth Clash against Virginia Tech on Thursday at 7pm at Klockner Stadium.
