No. 8 Virginia Men's Tennis Earns Two Ranked Wins at Wake Forest and NC State

UVA remained unbeaten in ACC play with victories at No. 19 Wake Forest on Friday and at No. 22 NC State on Sunday

The No. 8 Virginia men's tennis team went on the road this weekend and put its unbeaten ACC record on the line in a pair of ACC ranked matches. The Cavaliers preserved their perfect conference record with impressive victories at No. 19 Wake Forest on Friday and at No. 22 NC State on Sunday. 

Friday: No. 8 Virginia 4, No. 19 Wake Forest 0

Wake Forest had a 5-3 lead on court 3, but Virginia's teams of Inaki Montes and William Woodall (6-2) and Chris Rodesch and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg (6-3) made sure to pick up wins in their respective matches to ensure Virginia would earn the doubles point. 

Ryan Goetz defeated Luciano Tacchi 6-1, 6-3 on court 4 and No. 14 Chris Rodesch picked up an impressive victory over Wake Forest's nationally ranked No. 5 player Melios Efstathiou 6-2, 6-3 on the top court to give UVA a 3-0 lead. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg secured the 4-0 sweep for Virginia with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Matthew Thomson on court 3. 

Sunday: No. 8 Virginia 4, No. 22 NC State 2

Ryan Goetz and Alexander Kiefer started the match with a 6-2 win on court 3 and Inaki Montes and William Woodall knocked off NC State's No. 15-ranked pairing of Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli 6-3 to clinch the doubles point for the Cavaliers.

No. 39 Jeffrey von der Schulenburg beat Braden Shick 6-3, 6-0 on court 3, but NC State got on the board as Robin Catry beat Ryan Goetz 6-4, 6-3 on court 4. No. 14 Chris Rodesch won the top court matchup with No. 70 Luca Staeheli 6-4, 6-4, but the Wolfpack again responded as court 5 saw Fona van Sambeek take down UVA's Mans Dahlberg 6-2, 7-5 to make it 3-2. No. 23 Inaki Montes clinched the 4-2 win for the Cavaliers with a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court 2 over No. 61 Rafa Izquierdo Luque. 

Virginia has now won 43-consecutive matches against ACC opponents and sits at 19-4 overall and 10-0 in ACC play this season. The Cavaliers will look to complete the ACC season undefeated as they wrap up the regular season with matches against Clemson on Friday and Georgia Tech on Sunday at Boar's Head in Charlottesville.
