Virginia Women's Lacrosse Set to Face Albany in NCAA First Round in Denver

The Cavaliers earned a bid to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship for the 27th-consecutive season

For the 27th-consecutive season, the Cavaliers are headed to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship.

Virginia (11-6) earned an at-large bid and will face Albany (11-6) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 12th at 8pm ET at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in Denver, Colorado. The winner of that game will advance to take on the winner of No. 5 seed Denver (19-0) and Southern California (16-3) in the second round on Sunday at 3pm ET. All three of those games will be hosted by Denver and will be broadcast on ESPN+.ย

This marks the first-ever meeting between UVA and Albany, which won its first American East Championship since 2012 on Sunday to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Virginia set a program record with six ACC wins in the regular season and finished fourth in the conference standings before falling to Notre Dame 15-13 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.ย 

UVA was one of five ACC teams selected for the NCAA Tournament, joining No. 2 Syracuse, No. 3 Boston College, No. 4 North Carolina, and Notre Dame.ย Virginia has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the 27 seasons under head coach Julie Myers and this will be UVA's 34th appearance in the tournament in program history. The Cavaliers are seeking their fourth national championship and first since 2004.ย
