No. 5 Virginia women's tennis (13-2, 5-0 ACC) secured another point for the Cavaliers in the Commonwealth Clash with a dominant 6-1 victory over Virginia Tech (6-6, 1-4 ACC) on Thursday afternoon in Blacksburg. UVA now leads the 2023-2024 Commonwealth Clash 8-6

UVA's doubles teams of Melodie Collard/Meggie Navarro and Natasha Subhash/Hibah Shaikh won their respective matches 6-3 to claim the doubles point for the Cavaliers. 

Sara Ziodato posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Tamara Barad Itzhaki on court 4 and then Hibah Shaikh took down Katie Andreini 6-2, 7-5 on the top court to make it 3-0 in favor of Virginia. Annabelle Xu had the honor of clinching the win for the Cavaliers, taking down Ozlem Uslu 6-3, 6-2 on court 2. 

Elaine Chervinski defeated Dariya Radulova 6-2, 6-3 on court 5 and Melodie Collard won a three-set thriller over Laima Frosch 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 on court six. Virginia Tech scored its lone point of the match on court 3, where Semra Aksu narrowly defeated Natasha Subhash 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) to make the final score 6-1. 

Virginia has now won the last 28 meetings against Virginia Tech, whose last win over UVA came in the 1998 season. Click here to see the updated list of results for the 2023-2024 Commonwealth Clash, which the Cavaliers now lead 8-6.
