The Virginia wrestling team finished the regular season with a 33-3 loss at No. 9 Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Clash on Friday night at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The Hokies claimed nine of the ten weight classes, including the last seven classes to run away with the match. Virginia's sole victory came at the 165-pound weight class in a ranked showdown between No. 16 Justin McCoy of Virginia and No. 27 Connor Brady of Virginia Tech. McCoy just barely edged out Brady with a 5-4 win to earn UVA's only three points of the match.

UVA just barely missed out on a few victories in a series of tight ranked matchups. No. 31 Michael Battista lost a hard-fought 3-1 battle to No. 22 Andy Smith at 197, No. 27 Jarod Verkleeren was defeated by No. 8 Caleb Henson 8-4 at 149, and No. 16 Neil Antrassian fell to No. 7 Hunter Bolen 9-5 at 184.

The victory earned the Hokies a point in the 2022-2023 Commonwealth Clash, which Virginia leads 5.0-3.0. See a full breakdown of the 2022-2023 Commonwealth Clash here.

Virginia concludes the regular season dual meet schedule with an 8-6 overall record and a 1-4 mark in ACC play. Up next, UVA will compete in the ACC Championships on Sunday, March 5th on the campus of NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina.
