The 2022-2023 athletics year was yet another successful one for the University of Virginia. The Cavaliers added two more national championships in women's swimming & diving and men's tennis, bringing the UVA athletic department's all-time total to 33 NCAA team national championships

Additionally, the UVA men's lacrosse team reached the Final Four, Virginia baseball advanced to its sixth College World Series, and the UVA men's golf, women's cross country, women's soccer, and rowing teams earned top 10 finishes, while several other Virginia sports teams secured NCAA Tournament appearances. UVA won ACC Championships in women's swim & dive, men's tennis, and rowing and ACC regular season titles in men's basketball and men's tennis. 

Virginia placed fourth in the final standings for the 2022-2023 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup, a competition between all Division I schools that compares each athletic program's finishes in NCAA Championships across all sports. UVA finished with 1,105.50 points, good for fourth place nationally and first among schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“This year brought both incredible pain and incredible triumph and through it all, our student-athletes, coaches and staff showed up every day for each other and we found purpose and healing in competing for something greater than ourselves,” said Virginia director of athletics Carla Williams. “They are amazing and it’s an honor to be around such inspiration on a daily basis.”
