Report: Virginia Assistant Kyle Getter Hired as Notre Dame Associate Head Coach
In addition to some significant roster reconstruction, Tony Bennett can add filling a vacancy on the UVA coaching staff to his offseason to-do list. Virginia assistant coach Kyle Getter has reportedly been hired as the associate head coach at Notre Dame, joining new head coach Micah Shrewsberry's staff in South Bend.
Getter has spent the last five seasons on Tony Bennett's coaching staff at Virginia, the first three as director of recruiting and player development and the last two as an assistant coach. During that period, Getter helped UVA win three ACC regular season titles and the 2019 National Championship.
Prior to coming to UVA in 2018, Getter spent three seasons at Liberty under former Virginia associate head coach Ritchie McKay. Getter coached at Radford and VCU before that, helping the Rams to their historic run to the Final Four in 2011. He has also had coaching stints at Marshall, Wright State, Dayton, and Walsh University. Getter's coaching career began at Hanover College, where he served as a student assistant and assistant men's basketball coach from 1999-2002. The connection between Getter and Notre Dame's new head coach Micah Shrewsberry likely originates at Hanover, as Shrewsberry played his collegiate basketball career at Hanover from 1995-1999.
