Final Score: Duke 62, Virginia 69 OT

Vander Plas pump fakes and drives to the basket, drawing a foul on Filipowski. Vander Plas swishes the first free throw and makes the second with the help a friendly JPJ roll. Kihei Clark once again expertly orchestrates the pick-and-roll and drives to the basket, finishing over top of Ryan Young to give UVA a four-point lead. Clark draws a charge on Jeremy Roach and Roach is out of the game with his fifth personal foul. Vander Plas cuts to the basket and is fouled by Mitchell. Vander Plas misses the first, but drains the second free throw and Virginia leads by five. Tyrese Proctor uses a crafty crossover move to get by Beekman for a left-handed layup. Ryan Young dives to the basket after setting a screen and gets a wide-open look at a layup but he rolls it off the front of the rim. Jayden Gardner is called for his fourth personal foul. With the shot-clock winding down, Proctor drives to the basket on Beekman and gets a tough contested floater to fall off the glass, making it a one-point game with less than a minute to play. With Duke needing a stop to have a chance of taking the lead, Virginia works the ball to Armaan Franklin in the corner late in the shot-clock and Franklin buries the clutch three-pointer, putting the Cavaliers ahead by four points. Proctor turns the ball over as he dribbles into multiple Cavaliers. Duke fouls Kihei Clark and he makes 1/2 free throws, leaving the door open. Kyle Filipowski grabs an offensive rebound and is fouled, but he misses the front end of the one-and-one and remains scoreless on the day. Duke fouls Vander Plas, who again goes 1/2 from the line and it's a six-point game. Virginia gets another stop as Proctor's layup is off the mark. The ball comes to Armaan Franklin, who is fouled and he makes 1/2 free throws. Virginia escapes with a 69-62 overtime victory over Duke. Wow.

Duke gets the ball to Kyle Filipowski driving to the basket and Reece Beekman comes over to block Filipowski's dunk attempt. The refs initially call a foul on Beekman, but then they review the play and determine that time expired before the foul occurred. We're going to overtime.

Kihei Clark's three-pointer is off the mark and Ben Vander Plas and Kyle Filipowski both grab the rebound, leading to a jump-ball with the possession arrow favoring Duke. Jacob Grandison hits a clutch three-pointer from the corner to tie the game. Ben Vander Plas misses a three-pointer from the left wing and Duke will have a chance to win the game on the final possession of regulation. Armaan Franklin swipes the ball out of the hands of Dariq Whitehead and it goes out of bounds with 1.2 seconds remaining.

Armaan Franklin gets wide open underneath the basket and initially misses the easy layup but grabs his own miss and lays it in. Grandison misses a three-pointer late in the shot-clock and Ryan Dunn skies for the big-time defensive rebound. Kihei Clark threads a pass to Franklin on a backdoor cut and Franklin finishes through contact at the rim, giving Virginia a five-point lead. Jeremy Roach brings the ball up the floor and looks to call a timeout, but then drives to the basket and elevates for a floater off the glass. Duke then calls timeout and UVA leads 58-55 with 90 seconds left.

Virginia executes a great play as Kihei Clark penetrates and kicks out to Vander Plas, who sends a quick pass down low to a cutting Ryan Dunn for a slam dunk. The already loud John Paul Jones Arena explodes as the Cavaliers force a shot-clock violation on Duke's next possession. Vander Plas perfectly times a cut to the basket and Vander Plas scores with his left hand plus a foul on Ryan Young. And of course, Vander Plas fails to complete the three-point play as the Cavaliers continue to struggle from the free throw line. Duke gets a couple of offensive rebounds and eventually Vander Plas is called for his fourth foul and Ryan Young makes both free throws. Duke is 9/11 from the line while Virginia is a deplorable 3/12. Ryan Dunn plays incredible on-ball defense on Kyle Filipowski and blocks his shot right as the shot-clock expires, Duke's fourth shot-clock violation of the game. 

Duke 53, Virginia 54 | 3:29 2H

Armaan Franklin muscles his way into the paint and hits a tough floater plus a foul on Grandison. Franklin misses the ensuing free throw and Virginia is 3/10 from the charity stripe, a stat which may cost the Cavaliers this game. Whitehead pulls up for a jumper that gets a very soft and friendly bounce of the rim before dropping in. Kihei Clark blows by Grandison and scores with a finger-roll layup. Duke takes advantage of another second-chance opportunity and Whitehead glides to the basket for a layup. Clark expertly maneuvers a pick-and-roll and gets to the basket for a layup plus a foul on Ryan Young. Clark misses his free throw and Virginia unbelievably is 3/11 from the free throw line. Clark again uses a screen to get to the basket and gets his layup up off the glass before Ryan Young can block it. Virginia draws within one point and Duke calls timeout.

Out of the timeout, Jeremy Roach aggressively attacks the basket and ends UVA's 6-0 run with a tough finish over Shedrick at the rim. Ryan Young grabs an offensive rebound and draws a foul on Shedrick, who picks up his fourth personal foul with more than 15 minutes left in the game. He is replaced by Francisco Caffaro. Ryan Young makes both free throws and it's a one-point game. Jayden Gardner springs free off of a screen and hits the jumper from the left elbow off the feed from Beekman. Jacob Grandison knocks down an open three from the left wing to tie the game. Jeremy Roach grabs Jayden Gardner off-ball and is whistled for his fourth personal foul. Armaan Franklin knocks down another huge three-pointer off an inbounds pass from Beekman. Duke responds as Tyrese Proctor gets to his spot and elevates for a mid-range jumper. Grandison cuts to the basket and gets the pass from Young for a layup to put Duke back in front. Gardner backs down Proctor and hits a fadeaway jumper on the baseline. We're going back-and-forth now. Dariq Whitehead hits a three-pointer from the corner off the feed from Proctor. Reece Beekman misses an easy layup and the Blue Devils capitalize, as Proctor finds Whitehead late in the shot-clock for his second-straight three-pointer from the corner. Tony Bennett calls timeout as Duke goes ahead by five.

Virginia plays a great possession of defense and Mark Mitchell's desperation heave hits nothing for his second air-ball and Duke's second shot-clock violation of the game. Vander Plas pump-fakes and drives to the basket, drawing a foul on Dereck Lively II, his third foul. Vander Plas misses both free throws and Virginia is now 3/9 from the free throw line in this game. Ryan Young kicks out to Jacob Grandison, who knocks down the corner three and Duke retakes the lead. JPJ erupts as Armaan Franklin splashes a catch-and-shoot three-pointer off the feed from Clark, UVA's first three of the game. Kihei Clark pulls up from the right wing and hits the three-pointer and suddenly the lid has come off the basket for the Cavaliers at JPJ. Ben Vander Plas is called for his third personal foul, but UVA is on a 6-0 run to take a 35-30 lead.

Armaan Franklin gets free under the basket and Ben Vander Plas send a crisp pass to him for the layup to tie the game on the first possession of the second half. Kihei Clark draws a charge on Jeremy Roach, his third personal foul. Clark takes advantage of Roach's timid defense and drives past him for a reverse layup. Jon Scheyer calls a quick timeout as Virginia races out of the gate to take the lead just 51 seconds into the second half.

Shedrick checks back into the game and quickly picks up his third foul for throwing an elbow off the ball. Mark Mitchell goes to the line and makes one out of two free throws. Vander Plas catches the ball right above the free throw line, faces up on Filipowski, and knocks down the pull-up jumper. The fouls and foul trouble are really starting to pile up for the Cavaliers, as Ben Vander Plas is called for a blocking foul, his second personal. Armaan Franklin misses a pull-up three-pointer and Virginia is 0/5 from beyond the arc today. Tyrese Proctor finds an open lane to the basket and throws down a one-handed jam. Isaac McKneely responds with a big bucket for UVA, driving past Jacob Grandison and scoring with his left hand off the glass plus a foul on Ryan Young. McKneely misses the ensuing free throw. Dariq Whitehead tries to throw down a dunk, but Armaan Franklin had great positioning just outside the restricted circle and draws the charge. Virginia executed a great offensive play on the final possession of the first half as Kihei Clark drives from the left wing into the paint before giving off to Reece Beekman for a two-hand slam. Virginia cuts the deficit to two points, trailing Duke 27-25 at halftime.

Isaac McKneely draws a mismatch with Kyle Filipowski on him and the true freshman guard drives right past the seven-footer to the basket for a layup. Caffaro is called for his second foul while trying to box out Ryan Young, who goes to the line and makes both ends of the one-and-one. Armaan Franklin drives on Mark Mitchell and draws a foul, making one of two free throws. Roach fouls Vander Plas in the low post and Vander Plas makes 1/2 free throws. Mark Mitchell pops free to the right elbow and hits the open jumper off the feed from Proctor. 

Duke 24 Virginia 19 | 3:16 1H

The refs review Roach's earlier jumper and determine that it was a three-pointer, so the score is now Duke 12, Virginia 11. Roach comes around a screen and easily finds a lane to the basket for another bucket. He now has 12 of Duke's 14 points. Ryan Young grabs an offensive rebound over Vander Plas and kicks out to Tyrese Proctor, who hits the open three-pointer and Duke suddenly leads by six points at 17-11. Jayden Gardner stops the bleeding with a jumper from the free throw line. Gardner lays out to save a ball from going out of bounds, but then he is called for an offensive foul on a push-off, his second personal. Roach passes to Proctor, who knocks down his second three-pointer of the first half and Duke leads 20-13. Beekman intercepts Filipowski's pass out of a double-team and then Clark quickly passes ahead to Armaan Franklin, who drives to the basket and finishes with a two-hand flush. Duke has turned the ball over four times in the last three minutes but the Cavaliers can't get enough scoring at the moment to close the gap.

Kadin Shedrick steps into a free throw line jumper and is fouled by Lively. Shedrick makes the first, but misses the second foul shot. Jeremy Roach frees himself using a screen by Kyle Filipowski and hits a long jumper with his foot on the line. Ryan Dunn and Isaac McKneely check into the game for Virginia. UVA is called for a couple of fouls on the floor, but the Cavaliers eventually force a Duke shot-clock violation as Filipowski was unable to get his hook shot off in time. With the shot-clock winding down, Jeremy Roach glides past Clark to the basket and floats in a layup over the block attempt from Shedrick. Virginia comes up empty on offense again and Jeremy Roach scores again as he drives to the basket from the wing. It's a 6-0 run for the Blue Devils to reclaim the lead as the Cavaliers have gone more than three and a half minutes without scoring. UVA's scoring drought comes to an end as Shedrick sends a nice pass to a cutting Vander Plas, who scores off the glass. Shedrick is whistled for his second foul on the other end.

Tyrese Proctor dishes to Dereck Lively II out of the pick-and-roll and Ben Vander Plas fouls Lively, who makes two free throws to get the scoring started. Armaan Franklin gets the handoff and drives baseline, scoring with a nice reverse layup under the basket. Mark Mitchell air-balls an open corner three and then Kihei Clark drives past Jeremy Roach for an easy layup. Lively elevates over Vander Plas for an offensive rebound and then dishes to Roach, who drills the second-chance three-pointer. Vander Plas atones on the next play, getting free under the basket and scoring easily off of a nice pass from Reece Beekman. Beekman picks the pocket of Tyrese Proctor at mid-court and then takes the ball the other way for an easy dunk.
