Virginia Commit Christian Bliss Reclassifies to 2023, Will Redshirt 23-24 Season
Four-star point guard Christian Bliss, previously UVA's lone commit in the recruiting class of 2024, has reclassified to the class of 2023 and has officially signed with the Virginia men's basketball program, head coach Tony Bennett announced on Wednesday. According to the press release, Bliss will enroll at UVA this fall, but plans to redshirt the 2023-2024 season.ย
โWe are excited and fortunate to add Christian to our basketball program,โ said Tony Bennett. โChristian is a talented and competitive guard who plays with great feel. His redshirt season will allow him to focus on his strength and conditioning with coach (Mike) Curtis as well as his overall skill development. Christian comes from an outstanding family who values a degree from the University of Virginia.โ
A 6'4" guard out of the George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, Bliss announced his commitment to Virginia on June 30th, choosing the Cavaliers over Villanova, Xavier, and Miami. The Whitestone, New York native was named the Non-Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2022-2023 after leading George School to the Friends League Championship and an appearance in the state title game. Bliss averaged 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists last season.ย
With Bliss reclassifying from the class of 2024, Virginia's recruiting class of 2023 now features four recruits: four-star forward Blake Buchanan (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho), four-star guard Elijah Gertrude (Jersey City, New Jersey), three-star forward Anthony Robinson (Peachtree City, Georgia), and four-star guard Christian Bliss (Whitestone, New York).ย
Virginia has now filled its entire allotment of 13 scholarships for the 2023-2024 season.ย
