Virginia Freshman Forward Isaac Traudt Enters Transfer Portal
Virginia freshman forward Isaac Traudt has entered the NCAA transfer portal, Traudt announced in a social media post on Monday afternoon.
"After a lot of thought and consideration, I realized that nothing means more to me than home. So, I am officially entering the transfer portal to pursue an opportunity closer to my loved ones," Traudt said in the post. "Thank you again to the University of Virginia for the chance to be a part of an incredible program."
Traudt, a 6'10" freshman forward, was originally a four-star recruit out of Grand Island, Nebraska, where he was the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022. He redshirted his first and only season at UVA and will end his Cavalier career without playing a single game in a Virginia uniform.
It appears that this decision had less to do with Traudt redshirting this season, especially since Traudt personally elected to redshirt, and more to do with homesickness driving his choice to find a school closer to home. Regardless of the reasoning behind the move, it is a significant loss for the Virginia men's basketball program that such a highly-regarded recruit and talented player never saw the floor in his time at UVA.
Traudt is the second Cavalier to enter the transfer portal since the offseason began, joining redshirt senior center Francisco Caffaro, who entered the portal on Thursday. With two front court players already in the transfer portal and another big decision from center Kadin Shedrick looming, expect Tony Bennett and the UVA coaching staff to pursue a front court addition from the transfer portal this offseason.
