Virginia Picks Up Commitment From Three-Star Center Anthony Robinson
The April recruiting roll continues for Tony Bennett and the Virginia Cavaliers.
UVA secured a late addition to its 2023 high school recruiting class as three-star center Anthony Robinson announced his commitment to Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
Robinson's recruitment and eventual commitment to the Cavaliers was a very recent and quick development, as the 6'10" power forward/center had been signed to South Florida up until last month, when he requested a release from his National Letter of Intent after the Bulls parted ways with head coach Brian Gregory after six seasons.
Virginia, Georgia, and Vanderbilt were among the programs to express interest in Robinson, who largely flew under the radar during his high school career, receiving mostly mid-major offers before committing to South Florida last September. But, a strong senior season that saw Robinson lead Christ School (Arden, North Carolina) to a 31-4 overall record and the team's first state championship in 12 years, attracted a few major conference programs to him.
Watch highlights from Anthony Robinson's senior season in the video below:
UVA hosted Robinson and his family on an official visit earlier this week and Tony Bennett and company were able to convince Robinson to become the third player in UVA's 2023 recruiting class, which also includes four-stars Blake Buchanan and Elijah Gertrude, who signed with the Cavaliers back in November.
At 6'10", 235 pounds, Robinson provides more reinforcement to UVA's depleted front court, as the Cavaliers lost five scholarship front court players from the 2022-2023 season. UVA is now adding four front court newcomers to next season's roster, including two transfers and two incoming freshmen.
Anthony Robinson is the fourth player to commit to Virginia in the month of April, joining Merrimack transfer Jordan Minor, St. Thomas transfer Andrew Rohde, and Oklahoma transfer Jacob Groves. UVA is also adding Dante Harris, who transferred from Georgetown back in December, as well as what is now a three-player 2023 recruiting class consisting of Blake Buchanan, Elijah Gertrude, and Anthony Robinson.
Virginia has filled 11 scholarship spots for the 2023-2024 season, 12 if Reece Beekman decides to withdraw from the NBA Draft.
