Kelly, a former four-star cornerback, is a Virginia native who played his high school football at Oscar Smith in Chesapeake, Virginia. The 6'1", 210-pound defensive back entered the transfer portal on December 5th after finishing his fourth season in Chapel Hill. He ended his Tar Heel career with 180 total tackles, five interceptions, and 12 passes defended in 42 total games.

In 2021, Kelly earned Third-Team All-ACC honors after recording four interceptions, which tied for the most in the ACC, and seven passes defended to go along with 69 total tackles. This season, Kelly recorded 49 tackles, one interception, and two passes defended in 12 games.

Cam'Ron Kelly's homecoming to Virginia addresses a serious area of need for the Cavaliers, who lost two All-ACC cornerbacks with the departures of Anthony Johnson (First-Team All-ACC) to the NFL Draft and Fentrell Cypress II (Second-Team All-ACC) to Florida State. With Kelly supplying much-needed talent and experience at the cornerback position, John Rudzinksi and the Cavaliers can hope that the UVA secondary can again be a position of strength for Virginia in 2023.

Cam'Ron Kelly is the fifth player to transfer to Virginia this offseason, joining Saginaw Valley State offensive lineman Daijon Parker, Monmouth quarterback Tony Muskett, Northwestern wide receiver Malik Washington, and Clemson running back Kobe Pace. Kelly comes to UVA with one year of eligibility remaining.
