All-American Accolades Rolling in for Virginia WR Malik Washington

After breaking several receiving records in his lone season at UVA, Washington is collecting some much-deserved All-American recognition
In this story:

Unfortunately for Virginia fans, Malik Washington has played his final snap of football in a Cavalier uniform. But even weeks after the season has ended, Washington continues to make a name for himself and his school with countless post-season recognitions and accolades.

Many of the college football publications have released their All-America teams for the 2023 season and nearly all of them have included Washington in their selections. Washington was named a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America, Action Network, and Pro Football Focus, while College Football Network selected Washington as a First-Team All-American.

Sporting News, one of the five publications recognized by the NCAA as selectors for consensus and unanimous All-Americans, excluded Washington from both its First and Second All-America teams. Instead, Sporting News revealed a First Team of Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr., Washington's Rome Odunze, and LSU's Malik Nabers and a Second Team of Oregon's Troy Franklin, Missouri's Luther Burden III, and Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan. With Washington leading the country in receptions with 110 and ranking second with 1,426 receiving yards in the regular season, it seems to be quite the snub that Sporting News did not recognize him as one of the top six wide receivers in college football.

Still, it seems most of the college football publications are properly recognizing Washington for his achievements this season, with seven naming him an All-American and several more honoring him as an All-ACC selection, including the official 2023 All-ACC Football Teams, on which he was a First-Team selection with the most votes of any offensive player in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Washington isn't the only Cavalier earning All-America honors this season. Virginia freshman linebacker Kam Robinson has been named a First-Team Freshman All-American by 247Sports, On3, and College Football Network and a Second-Team Freshman All-American by The Athletic and College Football News. UVA first year quarterback Anthony Colandrea was also named a First-Team Freshman All-American by 247Sports and a Freshman All-American honorable mention by College Football Network.
