A familiar name popped up in the college football transfer portal on Wednesday as Desaun 'Tank' Williams, an offensive lineman from Campbell and former Virginia recruiting target, announced that he has entered the transfer portal.

A 6'4", 315-pound interior offensive lineman, Williams is a native of Bethel, North Carolina, but played high school football at Life Christian Academy in Chester, Virginia. A three-star prospect, Williams was ranked the No. 41 recruit in the state of Virginia according to the 247Sports Composite as well as the No. 88 interior offensive lineman in the country.

Long considered one of the top lineman in the state, Williams naturally attracted some serious attention from Virginia, which was the second school to extend a scholarship offer to Williams way back in March of 2019. Williams received several other Power Five offers, including Arkansas, Baylor, Maryland, Michigan State, South Carolina, West Virginia, Boston College, and Kentucky. UVA hosted Williams for multiple visits during his recruitment, but he ultimately decided to commit to Campbell, a school located less than two hours from his hometown.

Williams did not appear in any games in his freshman season at Campbell and is now making a late entry into the transfer portal. He won't be eligible to play in the 2023 season, but will have four years of eligibility remaining when he joins his new school starting in 2024.

It remains to be seen if Virginia will take another shot at recruiting Williams, this time with Terry Heffernan leading the charge, but it's certainly worth keeping an eye on.
