Virginia Defensive Back Dave Herard Enters Transfer Portal
Virginia defensive back Dave Herard entered the college football transfer portal, he announced in a social media post on Tuesday afternoon.
"It is with deep gratitude that I express my appreciation for the entirety of the enriching experiences and education I have received at the University of Virginia," Herard said. "The experiences I've had through the football program have contributed significantly to my personal and academic growth. However, as I evaluate my future aspirations, I have decided to enter the transfer portal to seek fresh perspectives and to be better aligned with my evolving goals."
A 6'0", 192-pound senior from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Herard appeared in 11 games this season and made seven starts. He tallied 40 total tackles, 25 of them solo stops, two tackles for loss, two passes defended, and a forced fumble in 2023. Herard played in 20 games over the last three seasons after redshirting his first year at UVA.
Herard enters the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
Herard is the fourth player from the Virginia secondary to enter the transfer portal, joining freshman safety Devin Clark, junior cornerback William Simpkins, and junior linebacker Lex Long, who often played in the secondary in his time at UVA.
