Tony Muskett: "It Means the World" to Play for Virginia

UVA quarterback Tony Muskett says it's "a blessing" to return to his home state and represent the University of Virginia on the football field

Tony Muskett wasn't at the University of Virginia when tragedy struck the Virginia football program and the UVA community last November as three student-athletes - Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler, and D'Sean Perry - were killed in a shooting on Grounds. But even so, the senior transfer quarterback from Monmouth understands the importance of what this upcoming football season will mean for his new teammates, coaches, classmates and community.

"This is a community that went through a lot last November and is still going through a lot, so that was just a big reason why I wanted to come home and support," said Muskett, a native of Springfield, Virginia, who began his career at Monmouth in New Jersey before transferring to UVA last December. "This community means a ton to me. Being the state school of Virginia, it means the world to come back and be able to play for the University of Virginia."

In a video feature produced by Virginia Sports TV, Muskett said it was "a blessing" to be able to return to his home state and represent the University of Virginia on the football field.

"I just think it was a blessing - a great program like UVA, a great University," Muskett said. "Family and friends an hour and a half, two hours away. It's just a blessing to be here with such a great locker room of guys, a great staff of coaches, and just being able to play football at the highest level. That's all I could ask for and I just can't wait to go out September 2nd and play with these guys and show the world what we can do."

Watch the full video feature from Virginia Sports TV below to see Muskett talk about his experience in the transfer portal and why he chose Virginia, the process of getting adjusted to UVA's program and system, the NFL quarterbacks he models himself after, the progress he and his teammates have made so far in fall camp, and his excitement to begin the 2023 season.
