UVA Football Commit Rated Top 15 In-State Prospect in Virginia
Tony Elliott and the UVA coaching staff have made it clear that the their 2024 football recruiting class will be built on a foundation of in-state talent from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each of the Cavaliers' first three verbal commits in their recruiting class of 2024 have come from Virginia natives.
The most recent commitment came from John Rogers, a 6'2", 215-pound tight end out of Episcopal in Alexandria. A few days after Rogers announced his commitment to Virginia, 247Sports updated its recruiting profile for Rogers, assigning him a three-star rating as well as a ranking as the No. 35 tight end in the country in the class of 2024 and the No. 15 overall prospect in the state of Virginia.
A tremendous athlete who excels as both a pass rusher and a pass catcher for Episcopal, Rogers was pursued by several programs, but Virginia was the first major conference program through the door with an offer back on April 19th. Fellow ACC programs Duke and Wake Forest began to express an interest in Rogers in the last few weeks, per a report from Greg Madia of the Daily Progress, but the Cavaliers already had a significant leg up and secured a commitment from Rogers before he even took his official visit to UVA, which is set for June 2nd.
With Rogers joining Virginia's 2024 recruiting class, the Cavaliers now have three Virginia natives committed for this cycle and all three are ranked in the top 40 prospects in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Benjamin York, an offensive lineman from Lake Braddock in Burke, Virginia, and the first recruit to commit to UVA from the class of 2024, is rated the No. 30 overall prospect in the state. Three-star athlete Ethan Minter out of Thomas Dale in Chester, Virginia is ranked the No. 40 overall prospect in the Commonwealth. Minter and York are now joined by John Rogers, the No. 15-ranked recruit in Virginia and one of the top tight end prospects in the country entering his senior year.
Tony Elliott has talked a lot about winning back the state on the recruiting trail. So far, the Cavaliers are doing just that with their 2024 recruiting class.
