With just a month remaining before the 2023 college football season gets underway, betting lines for the first week of the season have been released. Virginia is currently listed as a 28-point underdog against Tennessee in the season-opener in Nashville, according to Caesars Sportsbook. The over/under is currently set at 58.5.

Virginia went 3-7 last season, including a 1-6 mark in ACC play. The Volunteers, meanwhile, are coming off of one of their most successful seasons in recent history. Tennessee turned in an 11-2 overall record, which included wins over LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, and a 31-14 victory over Clemson in the Orange Bowl. The Volunteers had five players selected in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft, including quarterback Hendon Hooker and wide receivers Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman. But, Tennessee still has a talented roster coming back and is expected to be ranked well within the top 25 when the season begins.

In 2022, UVA was 4-6 against the spread, including 4-3 as an underdog and 1-0 covering against ranked opponents.

Virginia is set to take on Tennessee to open the 2023 college football season on Saturday, September 2nd at 12pm at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
