Virginia RB Perris Jones Regains Movement in Extremities After Scary Injury
Virginia running back Perris Jones has regained movement in all of his extremities after suffering an injury during UVA's 31-24 loss at No. 11 Louisville on Thursday night, according to a statement from a team spokesman. Read the full statement below:
Virginia running back Perris Jones has regained movement in all of his extremities after being injured during Thursday’s football game at Louisville. During the game’s third quarter, Jones was injured while being tackled after catching a pass and starting to run up field. Jones was taken by ambulance to the University of Louisville Medical Center. He will remain there Thursday night.
Jones took a serious hit to the head after making a catch in the third quarter of Thursday's game. He remained down on the field motionless for several minutes before eventually being carted off the field and taken by ambulance to the University of Louisville Medical Center.
UVA head coach Tony Elliott said in his postgame press conference that he was receiving "encouraging news" from the hospital regarding Jones's condition. That much was confirmed with the statement from Virginia that Jones has regained movement in all of his extremities. We will continue to provide updates on the condition of Perris Jones as they are made available.
A sixth year running back from Alexandria, Virginia, Jones originally walked on to the UVA football team and earned the starting tailback job ahead of the 2022 season. Jones has appeared in 51 games over the course of his career, including 15 starts. This season, Jones has 393 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
