Virginia RB Xavier Brown to Miss 4-6 Weeks With Elbow Injury
Virginia sophomore running back Xavier Brown will be out 4-6 weeks with a dislocated elbow, UVA head coach Tony Elliott confirmed on Monday. The injury will result in Brown missing the entirety of fall camp and possibly the first couple of games of the season.
"X is going to be 4-6 weeks on the dislocation in his elbow," Elliott said after Monday's practice. "Good news is nothing was major from a bone standpoint. It's really just a recovery time there."
This is an unfortunate setback for Brown, who was one of the most impactful freshmen on the roster in 2022, ranking second on team with 4.2 yards per carry. The good news for the Cavaliers is that the running back unit happens to be one of Virginia's deepest position groups this season. In addition to Xavier Brown, UVA has several running backs who could compete for significant carries this season, including Clemson transfer Kobe Pace, as well as returners Perris Jones, Mike Hollins, Cody Brown, Amaad Foston, and Jack Griese. Even with that solid depth, the Cavaliers will be hopeful that Brown can compete for a spot at the top of the depth chart when he returns from his injury.
Elliott was happy to report that Xavier Brown's injury was the only serious long-term injury for Virginia so far through the first week of fall camp. The other injuries suffered thus far have been minor and will only keep those players out for a short period of time.
