WATCH: Tony Elliott Reacts to the 2023 Virginia Football Schedule
In his National Signing Day press conference on Wednesday, Virginia head coach Tony Elliott was asked to give his thoughts on the 2023 Virginia football schedule, which was released earlier this week.
"I like the open date in the middle, but man it's a grind all the way through," Elliott said with a smile.
UVA's head coach specifically mentioned the season-opening matchup against Tennessee in Nashville as a game "you have to play" in order to test the program against the best of the best in college football. The Volunteers went 11-2 and defeated Clemson in the Orange Bowl last season.

Elliott said that there are some tough challenges for his team on the schedule and then added that every game will be a test. But overall, Elliott likes the balance of the schedule with the open date in the middle of the schedule in week 7, some opportunities for extra rest following the Thursday and Friday games, and said that the positioning of certain games is "favorable" for Virginia, without mentioning specific matchups.
