Virginia Lacrosse to Face Notre Dame in 2nd NCAA Semifinal in Philly
The No. 2 seed Virginia men's lacrosse team (13-3) will take on No. 3 seed Notre Dame (12-2) in the semifinals of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, May 27th at approximately 2:30pm at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. UVA and Notre Dame will play in the second semifinal about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal game between No. 1 Duke and No. 5 Penn State, which will start at 12pm. Both semifinal games will be televised on ESPN2.
Virginia advanced to the Final Four for the third time in the last four NCAA Tournaments with a 17-14 victory over No. 7 seed Georgetown in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Albany, New York. Connor Shellenberger led the Cavaliers with six goals and four assists for a total of 10 points, matching the UVA postseason record for points in an NCAA Tournament game. Notre Dame, meanwhile, defeated No. 6 seed Johns Hopkins 12-9 in the quarterfinals on Sunday in Annapolis, Maryland, to advance to the Final Four for the first time since 2015.
Virginia and Notre Dame will meet for the third time this season in the semifinals. The Cavaliers got the better of the Fighting Irish in each of the two previous meetings, with UVA winning 15-10 on March 25th in South Bend and 12-8 in the regular season finale on April 30th in Charlottesville. Notre Dame was ranked No. 1 in the country at the time of both games.
The winners of the two semifinal games will advance to the National Championship Game on Memorial Day on Monday, May 29th at 1pm in Philadelphia.
