Ryan Conrad and Charlie Bertrand are champions once again.

The two former Virginia men's lacrosse stars played pivotal roles in helping Team USA capture its second-consecutive world title and 11th all-time. Conrad and Bertrand scored a combined 17 goals during the 10-day tournament, which culminated in the United States defeating Canada 10-7 in the gold medal match on Saturday evening at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego to capture the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship.

Up until the gold medal match, Conrad and Bertrand had scored in each of the United States' six previous games. Conrad's streak came to an end in the title game as he went scoreless, but Conrad still finished fourth on the team in scoring with 10 goals to go along with two assists for 12 total points. He scored a hat trick against Israel in the quarterfinals and had two goals and one assist vs. Australia in the semifinals.

Bertrand, meanwhile, scored one goal in each of Team USA's games and extended that streak in the championship game with a crucial goal in the fourth quarter to help the Americans maintain their lead down the stretch.

Now, Ryan Conrad and Charlie Bertrand find themselves in familiar territory as champions. Conrad won three state championships in high school at Loyola Blakefield - one in lacrosse and two in soccer - a gold medal as part of the United States' U19 World Lacrosse Championship team in 2016, an ACC and NCAA Championship at Virginia in 2019, and most recently, the 2022 Premier Lacrosse League Championship with the Waterdogs. Bertrand won back-to-back NCAA Division II national titles at Merrimack in 2018 and 2019 before transferring to Virginia and winning another national championship at the DI level in 2021.

Conrad and Bertrand were never teammates at the University of Virginia, but both won national titles for the Cavaliers. And in their first chance to be teammates on the field, these two former Wahoos helped deliver yet another world championship for USA Lacrosse.
