Five Former Virginia Basketball Stars Set to Play in 2023 NBA Postseason
The 2022-2023 NBA regular season is in the books and the bracket for the NBA Playoffs and Play-In Tournament is officially set. Five former Virginia men's basketball players will participate in the 2023 NBA Postseason.
Malcolm Brogdon & Sam Hauser
Team: Boston Celtics
Seed: No. 2 in Eastern Conference
Matchup: will face the winner of No. 7 Miami Heat and No. 8 Atlanta Hawks in the first round
Joe Harris
Team: Brooklyn Nets
Seed: No. 6 in Eastern Conference
Matchup: will face No. 3 Philadelphia 76ers in the first round
De'Andre Hunter
Team: Atlanta Hawks
Seed: No. 8 in Eastern Conference
Matchup: will face No. 7 Miami Heat in the Play-In on Tuesday at 7:30pm ET in Miami. If the Hawks beat the Heat, they will play No. 2 Boston Celtics in the first round. If the Hawks lose to the Heat, they will get another chance and will play the winner of the Toronto Raptors/Chicago Bulls in a second Play-In game for the right to face No. 1 Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.
Trey Murphy III
Team: New Orleans Pelicans
Seed: No. 9 in Western Conference
Matchup: will face No. 10 Oklahoma City Thunder in the Play-In on Wednesday at 9:30pm ET in New Orleans. If the Pelicans beat the Thunder, they will play the loser of the Los Angeles Lakers/Minnesota Timberwolves in a second Play-In game for the right to face No. 1 Denver Nuggets in the first round.
Note: Ty Jerome (Golden State Warriors) and Mamadi Diakite (Cleveland Cavaliers) are not included in this list as they are on two-way contracts with their respective franchises and are therefore ineligibile to play in the NBA Playoffs.
