Former Wahoo Emma Navarro Wins First WTA Title at Hobart International
Former Virginia women's tennis star and 2021 NCAA Singles Champion Emma Navarro captured the first WTA title of her professional career on Saturday as she defeated No. 1 seed Elise Mertens 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 to win the Hobart International in Australia.
Navarro is off to a strong start to the 2024 season, going 8-1 and reaching the Auckland semifinals last week before she made her run to the title at the Hobart International. The former Cavalier is now ranked the No. 31 women's singles player in the world, the best ranking of her career.
Navarro, 22, is set to make her Australian Open main-draw debut next week as the No. 27 seed in the field and will face China's Xiyu Wang in the first round.
