Former Virginia men's basketball center Jay Huff has been named the 2022-2023 G League Defensive Player of the Year, as determined by a vote of the league's 30 head coaches and general managers.

Huff appeared in 28 total G League games this season, the first 19 with the South Bay Lakers and the other nine with the Capital City Go-Go after he signed a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards on March 1st. In those 28 games, Huff led the G League with 3.1 blocks per game and was second in block percentage (65.9%). Huff averaged 15.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for the Lakers and Go-Go. Huff has proven himself as an elite rim-protector and has continued to refine his offensive game, finishing thunderous dunks and shooting above 40% from three-point range.

On the same day that he was named the G League Defensive Player of the Year, Jay Huff celebrated the award by delivering the best NBA performance of his career, recording 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal for the Wizards in their loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Huff shot 5/10 from the floor, 3/6 from beyond the arc, and 4/5 from the free throw line in 27 minutes of action.
