Wake Forest's Tyree Appleby named ACC Player of the Week
After a pair of clutch performances down the stretch in the Demon Deacons' two wins over UNC and Georgia Tech, Wake Forest point guard Tyree Appleby has been named ACC Player of the Week.
Appleby averaged 25.5 points, 8.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds over the two-game span. His performance against UNC was one for the history books -- he broke the all-time ACC records for free throws made (23) and attempted (28) in a single game en route to a 35-point performance. Against Georgia Tech, Appleby sealed the game for the Deacs, making two clutch free throws with 2.3 seconds remaining and giving the team a one-point lead.
Appleby received PotW honors over Virginia Tech's Grant Basile, who scored 33 points in back-to-back games for the Hokies. Tech split the contests, falling to Boston College by 14 at home but bouncing back with a 14-point road win over Notre Dame.
This is Appleby's first ACC Player of the Week award so far this season. The Deacs return to action Saturday on the road against Miami at 2 p.m. ET.
