Hear From Jake Dickert After Naming John Mateer as WSU's Starting QB

This week, Washington State Cougars answered arguably the team's biggest question: who will be the starting quarterback to start the year? The answer is redshirt sophomore John Mateer. Dickert's staff made that decision over the weekend and announced it to the public on Monday.

Following the decision, Dickert answered questions from the media about what lies ahead for his offense, his team, and their young leader under who will start under center on August 31 against Portland State.

"John's intangible pieces, what he can do with his feet, what he can do Off-Script, his big arm and I think more importantly, John is going to get exponentially better," Dickert said, citing reasons Mateer won the starting job. Dickert also noted that Bryant transfer Zevi Eckhaus, who Mateer beat out for the job, handled the decision with a high level of maturity and will be ready to play, if called upon.
