Washington State Kicker Dean Janikowski Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is presented to the FBS player who "best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field." Over 100 college football players were named to the award's watch list on Thursday morning.
Representing the Washington State Cougars on that list is graduate student placekicker Dean Janikowski.

Janikowski's mother passed away from breast cancer in 2022. In her memory, Janikowksi and the Heather Janikowski Foundation has hosted a series of fundraising events in support of cancer research and to help fund the treatment of families in the Pacific Northwest. Particularly through his Kicking Cancer event, Janikowski has raised over $80k for the cause.

Over the past three seasons, Janikowski has also been an integral part of the Cougars' scoring, connecting on 126 of 129 extra point attempts with 35 field goal makes on 46 attempts.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced as the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team mid-September, and finalists will be announced on November 26th. The recipient of the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy will also serve as Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The announcement of the 2024 recipient is scheduled to be made on December 12th
