The Washington State Cougars added an assistant coach with considerable experience in the professional ranks ahead of the 2024 season.

George Galanopoulos was named an assistant coach for David Riley's inaugural staff at WSU on Monday.

"I'm extremely excited to be able to join the Cougars," Galanopoulos said in a statement posted to wsucougars.com. "Coach Riley and his staff are building something special here and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it. I'm looking forward to working with today's WSU student-athletes to help develop their games for the next level."

Galanopoulos' most recent coaching stop came in the G-League as the associate head coach of the Rip City Remix, an affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. His impressive resume also includes a stint as the Uganda National Team's Head Coach and four seasons as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks' G-League affiliate Texas Legends.

Galanopoulos spent roughly eight seasons with the Dallas Mavericks organization from 2016-202 either as an assistant with the first team or in the G-League.

Riley stated his support for Galanopoulos' hire, stating "George is a great basketball mind. He has gained a ton of experience and knowledge in the NBA, and we are glad to bring his skills to our Cougar team. Welcome to Wazzu, George!"
