WSU Basketball Great Klay Thompson Hitting NBA Free Agency, Per Reports

Per reporting from Shams Charania of The Athletic, Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors are expected to part ways after 13 seasons.

Thompson played the last year of his most-recent Warriors contract in 2023. He had originally signed a five-year deal with the Warriors prior to the 2019 season worth just south of $190 million. The Warriors have reportedly not offered Thompson a new contract with the free agency period beginning this weekend.

Thompson has played his entire NBA career with the Warriors. The former Cougar was selected with the 11th overall pick in 2011. Thompson won four NBA championships and earned five all-star nods with the Warriors in that time. Thompson has a career average of 19.6 points per game in the NBA with a three-point shooting percentage of 41.3%.

Thompson played three collegiate seasons in Pullman (2008, 2009, 2010). His 242 three-point shots made are a program record. He is also third in WSU men's basketball history with 1,756 points.

The 34-year-old is expected to have communication with a number of suitors when the window for teams to communicate with free agents outside their own organizations on Sunday, June 30. Players can officially sign with new teams beginning July 6.
