Trinity Rodman and USWNT Advance to Gold Medal Olympics Match

Former Washington State Cougar Trinity Rodman and the United States Women's National Team won their Olympic semi-final match on Tuesday over Germany by a score of 1-0. The United States advance to their first gold medal matc since the 2012 Olympic games in London.

Rodman had three goals and an assist in Olympic play entering this contest. While she did not obtain either in this contest, she kept pressure on the German defense throughout the duration of the match. Rodman won two free kicks in the first half, and helped create six separate scoring chances throughout the contest.

Ultimately, it was Sophia Smith who finally broke through for the U.S. in the first period of extra time in the 95th minute. Keeper Alyssa Naeher also saved seven shots to pitch a shutout for the Americans.

Rodman, competing in her first Olympics, will lead the U.S. in search of their fifth Olympic gold against Brazil on Saturday, at 11 AM ET/8 AM PT on USA Network.
