5-Star Point Guard Zoom Diallo Commits to Washington

The Huskies add a second guard to their 2024 recruiting class.
In this story:

Zoom Diallo made a point to announce his college basketball decision in his hometown of Tacoma, Washington, where the 6-foot-4 point guard led Curtis High School to back-to-back Class 4A state boys basketball titles.

With his family and dozens of others in attendance, the 5-star recruit announced on Saturday he will play for Washington and coach Mike Hopkins, choosing the Huskies over Arizona, Gonzaga and USC.

"I was going back and forth with Washington and another school, but I knew it was going to be Washington three [or] four days ago," Diallo said.

Diallo, now at California's Prolific Prep for his senior year, becomes the first 5-star prospect to sign with the program since 2019, when the Huskies signed two: forwards Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels.

McDaniels, who came to the UW from suburban Federal Way, is the last 5-star from the state to stay home.

Husky assistant coach Will Conroy, and former UW point guard, now urges local to sign with the Huskies with the following message: Don't turn your back on Washington, put Washington on your back.

With Diallo, it worked.

Conroy was the UW's lead recruiter on Diallo and the 5-star took those words to heart.

"Just give them a chance, stay home," Diallo said of the message imparted with him. "You can go far and go somewhere else. But why not just stay home and represent the place you've been for the majority of your life?"

Joining 4-star guard Casmir Chavis, a signee from Minneapolis, he gives the UW potentially a very dynamic future backcourt.
